Pronunciation Guide:


Consonants used in the Cherokee Language are pronounced much the same way as consonants in the English language. The English equivalents are ch, d, g, h, j, k, l, m, n, q, s, t, w, and y. In the Big Cove region (s) is often pronounced as (sh), in the Oklahoma region the (s) is pronounced as (s).

The vowels have the following pronunciation:

"a" as in ah or father
"e" as in they
"i" as in ski
"o" as in quote
"u" as in blue
"v" as in huh or nut
